Oncotarget and the Sections Involved in its Research

Since its invention in the year 2010, Oncotarget has been an open access medical journal that covers most of the different aspects of oncology. The peer reviewed journal focuses mainly on pathological basis on cancer related cases.  Additionally, the journal also focuses on the management of programs and therapeutic protocols on patient’s perspective. Apart from providing information, the journal’s main purpose is to publish papers online for a fee. Apart from coming up with scientific results, Oncotarget also ensures they readily avail their products whenever needed.Oncotarget gets their products through intensive research, which provides room for discovery of other efficient products. Further, the journal explores the criteria behind existing therapies and works on improving its outcome. Most importantly, the journal works on defining its usage and improves on its acceptance by the patients. Due to its link to different fields of study, Oncotarget broadened its sections of study beyond its original field as shown below:

Aging or Gerotarget Section

This section’s function is to publish high-impact papers in aging related diseases. Aging research areas include; genetics of longevity from yeasts to human, signal transduction method, and cellular senescence. This section mainly focuses on age related diseases such as metabolic syndrome and hypertension.

Pathology Section

Michael Lisanti, the former editor in chief of American Journal of Pathology (AJP), launched pathology section. His aim was mainly targeted on the increase of oncologists to meet the growing demand of its clients. Additionally, pathology section provides additional options where papers accepted online can be published within 2 to 5 days after acceptance. Further, its advancement in field of science led to its reward of performance factor of 6.63 for two years consecutively.

Microbiology section

This section works on publishing papers in Oncotarget related fields of study. Microbiology mainly focuses on immunity cell development, transplantation, and mucosal immunology. With a specialty in these fields, microbiology section maintains a centralized system where its submission is based. This method has several advantages as shown below:

  • It has a high impact factor
  • Communication to the Editorial Advisory Board is enabled.
  • It has a higher publication compared to other methods of Oncotarget.
